Chinese Lanterns at the Autry Museum of the American West Sunday, September 27, 1:00–2:30 p.m. Griffith Park "Originally, Chinese families hung colored lanterns in front of their doors to drive away evil spirits. But today colored lanterns have largely become a symbol of traditional Chinese culture, playing an even more important role in celebrations and ceremonies. Alex Beard, Children's Author, at LACMA Sunday, September 27, 3:00 pm "Bring your kids to meet this New York author and painter whose debut children's book, The Jungle Grapevine, brings an African savannah to life, one filled with humor and misunderstanding. You and your Tyke will take a fun filled hike looking for all of the signs of Autumn. We'll collect fallen leaves, listen for the wind in the trees and explore the colors of the season. We'll learn all about how animals store food for winter and discover where animals keep warm when the weather begins to change. Tykes will enjoy hands-on activities and a story along the way.
